This is a prime example of the best and worst and worst of being involved in warbirds. Making friends and losing them.
John Herlihy was a neat guy with a great sense of humor and a awesome pilot. From what I've heard, John was in the front when they suffered a total engine failure and he had no choice to put it into the trees. The right wing was sheared off and the 28 rolled into the ground killing him instantly. The owner was in the back and I understand he is critical and isn't expected to make it. John flew in our airshow here 4 years in a row doing an impressive acro display in both the P-51 and T-28. He was involved in Warbirds and air racing for over 30 years. The Bearcat he owned and raced in the 60s is now owned by Bill Anders. Blue Skies John
