... in this hobby in the first place. As far as I can remember I have been sticking lumps of plastic together resembling aircraft when I was a boy (and the occasional tall ship and tank). This wonderful hobby teaches you the diffenence between the aircraft types over the decades. In fact I had never heard of the Halifax before until I saw the Airfix kit about it and fell in love immediately (that was in 1981). Also by improving your modelling skills and doing a lot of research in improving the detail in the cockpit etc. give you a lot of experience in recognizing bits and pieces fitted inside. Something that has always come in handy during the past fourteen years while recovering aircraft wrecks. Problem nowadays for me is that I don't have the time anymore I would like to spend on building kits because of my other interests in aviation archaelogy, the organisation I work for as a volunteer etc. But I do read any possible modelling magazine each month and keep making plans to build some models for our museum displays, now I only have to find the time to do that. I still have a Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster under construction hopefully to be finished as DV286 to put on display at our museum. One day perhaps, before I finish that 1/1 scale Halifax cockpit project of mine.
