Blake is right. Ultimately it is in the Lord's hands as to why He chose to let the accident happen. It doesn't sound like you should really feel guilty. Is it a tragedy that you were involved in? YES, absolutely. And I can definately see where you can feel bad since you asked him to go along, but just remember that the pilot is ultimately responsible for determining if his aircraft is safe for flight, and then is responsible to fly it safely. Mr. Johnson apparently felt safe flying the plane, and whether it was a mechanical problem, freak gust of wind, pilot error, medical problem, or who knows what else, there's nothing you could have done to prevented it. I think that the most important thing now is to learn from what happened if possible and move on.
Also look to yourself and ask if you're ready to stand before your Maker, as none of us knows when it will be our time to go.
