I am against flight restrictions on warbirds too. However, all warbird pilots could tone it down a notch to reduce accidents. I understand being in a "hot rod" of airplanes and wanting to go play around with it. It is too tempting. Most warbird crashes are pilot error even though mechanical issues seem to happen alot as well. It is always tragic nomatter what the cause. A safe and thorough pilot can still be bitten by the "beast". Warbirds have become toys for rich men sometimes at the expense of safety and good pilot training. There are also many pilots and museums who are very concious about safety and continual training. These planes that are so important to us will not continue to fly forever. Insurance, fuel, parts, and govt restrictions will put an end to it at some point. We all need to work to find better ways to preserve, fly, and keep the warbirds we have at this point. Warbird operator siminars are one way of doing this. I think that there needs to be more of them throughout the year in various regions to allow more operators to go to them.
Point being: I think we in the warbird movement need to make the changes for saftey before they are made for us.
