The highlight of my warbird year was being able to choose the paint scheme for Mike Potter's Spitfire Mk XVI s/n SL721, and then being able to choose where to get it painted (Sky Harbour in Goderich Ontario) and then being there to make sure that it came out the way I wanted it. Outside of owning a Spitfire, this comes in a close second. I got to work with Earl Chapman taking the control surfaces etc. off and then puting everything back together, something that I never did in the 22 years that I worked on Cliff Robertson's Mk IX s/n MK923. I had always been promised by Cliff that if 923 got repainted that I would be in charge. It never happened.
So I guess you could say that the highlight was the entire project, from beginning in Feb. to the presentation in Ottawa in August.
Cheers
Bob S.
