When they recovered the Mary Rose from the Solent where she had sunk in the time of Henry VIII, they still found the skeletons of about 200 of her crew. Similarly with the submersible Hunley, which sank at the time of the ACW, the remains of her last crew were found within her. So I guess there are circumstances when human remains are not quickly reclaimed by nature.
