Stirling N3654 recovery update

Hi all,

Just to let you know that the six missing crewmembers of this Stirling have all been accounted for! One of the next of kin who is present during the recovery was surprised when his uncle was found and identified at the spot by his name being inscribed in his flying gloves. The searching for the several tons of soil will take about another two weeks before the project is finished. Three 500 lbs bombs have been rendered harmless and were exploded on the north sea last week.

Yesterday we received the final two tons or so from Lancaster DV286 which was recovered earlier this year and included several prop blades, one prophub with single blade still attached, base of the rear turret, several small parts, large sections of flap and one complete undercarriage with tyre.

The five crewmembers that were found during this recovery are supposed to be given a christian burial later this month.

Well, 11 missing RAF-crewmembers recovered in one year, not bad for 2003. This is a great boost to go on with the search.

Cheers

Cees
