Bob DeFord's Spitfire IX flies!!!
Bob DeFord, of Prescott, Arizona, USA, has successfully flown his full-scale Spitfire MkIX replica, N1940K. This Spit is built from Marcel Jurca's MJ100 plans, has a fuselage of welded steel tube covered in aluminium, and wooden wings and tail section. Power is provided by an Allison V-1710-63, producing 1325hp, and this turns a cut-down DC-3 propeller. First flight was on July 19 2003.
