Also, wouldn't you slide alot further on grass than on asphault? I've never crashed a plane but I have wasted a couple of cars both on asphault and grass (mispent youth:) and you tended to slide much longer on grass. This could have a strong bearing on the pilots decision depending on the length of the runway and the amount of grass next too it, and more importantly what waited at the end of both.
