Hi Dave, In May 1987 she was placed under a parachute shaped structure which offered protection from the rain/snow but the base of this structure was open around the perimeter. Therefore the plane was subject to the high humidities and many bird droppings. Several years ago it was discovered that corrosion was setting in due to the humidity and things got so bad the USAF museum threatened to remove the plane to Dayton. This caused the people who cared for the plane to search for different home. In 2 or 3 years when the current restoration is complete this WW2 survivor will be placed inside a more permanent structure in a totally secured enviorment so it will never have to be torn apart again.
