I figure a few of you might be curious about the Corsair illustrated on page 27 of the latest Warbirds International, sitting just behind the Fw-190D fuselage.
The scheme is interesting enough, being two-tone white with a blue "wave" shape painted on each side of the fuselage. The props were chromed as well.
This is in fact BuNo.92399 as it appeared between 1965-1970 while owned and operated by Alvin George in Atlanta, Georgia. Not long after this photo was taken, the FG-1D suffered a forced landing at NAS Norfolk, Virginia and the damaged airframe was kept on location there pending Mr. George's original intention of donating it to the USMC. Despite much pressure from the USMC, Mr. George decided instead to sell the plane to Harry Doan to recoup his investment in the plane.
This is the Corsair that's now with the Cavenaugh Flight Museum in Addison, Texas.
