The dual serial does not appear to be the result of mixing major components of aircraft in service in this instance. From what I understand the "other number" was an earlier number applied to track shipping/ordering. Information can be found in the National Australian Archives to support this. I'm not sure if these numbers actually appeared on the aircraft in service. Presumably they were overpainted on delivery, and later appeared after weathering (just a guess). Anybody know for sure?
