strange Hawker aircraft part

I got an unusual hawker aircraft component through today - the label says it is 'straight lead box'. Anyone know what that is?

Has a little windy handle on it. Says it came off aircraft G-9-191 on date 22/12/49.

Strange serial? Any info would be appreciated. I guess it would have come from a fury or a sea hawk.
