The second attempt at Anoka took place yesterday, with the following results, obtained thanks to the kind help of Dick Phillips, who seems to know everyone on the warbird community, and who is so cool to hang around with, and listen to all the stories, data and side-bars from his vast experience.
ANOKA - BLAINE AIRPORT August 27, 2003
C & P Hangar:
N.A.A. F-82-E-NA s/n 46-256: Co-pilot?s fuselage is mounted on a jig, primed, and structurally complete, but still doesn?t have any plumbing or electrical.
Elevator, horizonta control surfaces are finished. Pilot?s fuselage is yet to be worked on; cockpits, vertical control surfaces, landing gear, etc. not done yet. Estimate for completion is 5 years. Color scheme will be NACA?s.
Convair L-13 N-6615C LG-163 on fuselage. 46-163, with titles for 1st. Avn. Depot.
Boeing L-15 N-244PA. Dis-assembled, tail boom and vertical control surfaces, as well as the wings, are detached from the main fuselage. No engine or propeller.
Plans are to restore it back to flying condition. Acquired from Alaska. It bore at some time (remains can be seen) the name ?El Burrito.? Also served with The Alaska Department of Forestry and the Space Electronics Group.
Grumman HU-16E Albatross: N-7029F, 7218. Painted in USCG colors, with ?St. Paul? on one of the sponsons, but with C &P titles replacing USCG inside the USCG?s shield.
N.A.A. SNJ-5 N-3724G; overall bare metal, looks old and tired, unknown if flyable.
N.A.A. B-25 (J?) ?Lady Luck? 45-8884A on tail. Overall polished metal.
WACO UPF-7 NC-39713, civilian color scheme.
L-29 Delfin N-331CP ?66?
L-29 Delfin N-321CP ?16? 194340 on forward fuselage. Both have lettering in Cyrillic.
At the Mike Rosson Hangar:
Curtiss A-25A Shrike: This airplane is being restored back into static display condition; a large amount of metal work is being carried out; it will go on display at the USAF?s Museum at Wright Patterson; estimated completion around the end of October 2003; the airplane sits on its landing gear, has a brand new engine, prop, canopy and glass (NOS); machine gun turret, seats, instruments, radios, ammo boxes, raft and container; many original A-25 parts on this restoration.
This A-25 restoration is being done incorporating parts from other aircraft; this one was recovered from around Salt Lake City, UT. where it crashed in bad weather with two other aircraft, whose pilots had returned from Guadalcanal, and were converting into the type. Other wrecks and pieces have provided parts for this airplane. Plans are for it to be moved by road once the USAF museum approves and accepts it once finished.
I also saw one of two or more hangars, containing according to the owner, over 26 BT-13 and PT-19 aircraft, with spares, engines, wrecks, etc. Owner says in about three monts he will start re-building BT-13s and probably will complete 8 coming out of the 26. Owner asked for his identity to be held confidential for the time being.
