Hi all,
Just got back tired and muddy but very happy.
Today we recovered the last remains of Halifax JB803 from a meadow in Muiden to the east of Amsterdam. The investigation last saturday proved to be positive and that was confirmed today with a wealth of wreckage recovered.
We recovered among other things: A very complete Merlin XX in excellent condition, remains of three radiators and remains of wooden Rotol prop blades, fire extinguisher, parts of mainspar and wingstructure in extremely good condition, two undercarriage legs, one of the enormous bridge structures to which the undercarriage and engine are attached an enormous amount of engine accessories and fittings etc, brake bags, remains of three SBC's (small bomb containers) some with incendiaires still inside, and some smoke was apparent coming out of the ground.
All in all a very very rewarding recovery and all this will be put on display at our museum after cleaning. I will send some of the photo's to Paul Millan to be put on webshots soon.
Cheers
Cees
