.... while leaving the Airshow and walking back to my car on Saturday evening (5:00 pm) I got the opportunity to witness one-of-a-kind ground engine run-up, taking place behind the fence, between 2 rows of hangars.
It was a beautiful little/tiny low-wing airplane with steel tube fuselage and wooden wings, none of them being covered yet. Enquiring about the mysterious little beauty, I was told it's a full scale replica, being built from scratch, of Ben Howard's DGA-5 'IKE' air racer (NR-56Y, Race Number 39) --> See link below for more info on original aircraft.
Not a warbird I agree, but what a terrific looking bird and from what I've seen, an outstanding quality of work.
Anyone knowing more about this project???
Cheers,
Jacques
