: Hi John,
:
: First you did find a B-32, the USAFM looked for this a/c i
: n the early 80's but gave up. As for other B-32 in the Pac
: ific. Their were only about 30 or so build and most of the
: m went to Tiania. Aside from the one you found their were
: three other wrecks one that bellied on the North runway an
: d burnt a second that was scrap due to combat damage and a
: third that ditch not to far off of the South Runway. The
: remaining were flown back to the US were they were scraped
: Ironically the USAF had set one aside for the Museum but
: because of a paperwork SNAFU it was scrapped.
:
: Their is a great book on the B-32 I can;nt remember who pu
: t it out maybe someone can tell you.
: Hope this helps

Hi Rob

Thanks for the Info

I can see why they gave up - still in the future there is no doubt technology will gather strength to allow something like this to happen. The recovery of the Kursk submarine shows what can be done. The problem here at present is the depth and I think this will remain an issue for a long time.

I also think it would be valuable through this and other groups to establish some sort of database of these deep water wrecks for a future time. The extreme depth has a bonus in as much as the low oxygen and low temp means the wrecks GENERALLY survive better so to a certain extent for once time is not the issue.

I have access to a fair bit of academic work on the issues in terms of seawater and corrosion issues. This could be quite a valuable discussion if we progress it through WIX for the future. Think of all those deep water wrecks we could consider that are out of reach now.

As an aside does anybody know of any deep water wrecks at present and any info on sunken carriers that might contain good prospects. I have seen a few of the Coral Sea carrier wreck photos and they are quite a mess - they generally burnt very badly so there probably isn't much there but are there any other candidates - aircraft or wrecks

Regards
John Parker
