Yes there're both 32 bit systems. The difference is their design. If you think of it as a family tree then 95, 98, Me share one branch and NT 4, 2000, and XP another. Its more to do with the internal workings and design. The NT branch has generally been more stable due to design. MS provides more protection between the application and the operating system. This makes it alot harder for an application to crash and take out the whole system (though it is still possible). I had a chat with a guy from Intel who as part of the original 80386 design team (some years ago!!) and he said Intel were annoyed MS didn't use all the features of the chip which would provide a more stable OS. It was time to market and backward MS-DOS compatiblity issues again. This has always dogged the 95 branch. NT address this through proper emulation which at the beginng was crap but with 2000 and XP looks pretty good.
