Cees, not truly replying to you but couldn't decide where to put this.

I am confused. everyone has such varying views of the retrieval of wrecks from PNG whether stealing or rescue or what. now it seems that the same people, or at least some, seem to have the opposite views of a similar set of things happening ( I know it is not the same but it is close enough to be comparable ) to an airframe from a european country.

I am not saying or calling anyone names. just wondering why it might be that such disparate views exist for what is basically the same thing. theft of the historic and cultural heritage of a country.

I admit that in many ways these items should be properly conserved and the arrangements for such vary quite enormously between the two but theft is theft.

If I have upset anyone I apologise in advance but it is something which annoys me how some people, not even nessecarily posted on here, have opinions which change with the wind depending on where and when things are and I would love to try and understand why they do so.

p.s. yes I do see the illegal export of the exSyd Marshal spitfire from australia as theft of a sort as well even though that airframe ( now resident in england and airworthy I believe ) was not in any danger of rotting away to nothing.
If legal export permits had been obtained then australia would have seen the the loss much sooner of the airframes also attempted to be illegally exported at the same time but I do not mind that provided they are done correctly and especially if those airframes will be preserved for my great grandkids to enjoy.

sorry for the rant but well, it is just my opinion.

now to start ducking flak.
