The larger chord rudder was fitted to low back MK XIV's and the XVIII's to help with the loss of directional stability from the cut back fuselage.
If you look carefully, it also has an anti balance tab that was designed to also help directional stability during high speed dives.
Apparantley, it gives today's pilots legs a real work out during displays!
SM845 despite now being a low back variant, has this type of rudder.
