From Dick Phillips
I can agree on the types on the list, but should add that there are probably 100 or more other aircraft wrercks on the bottom of the lake too. That would include airliners and numerous small private planes.
I was born and raised in Lake Forest, IL and remember how much fun I had during WW2, watching the Sable and the Wolverine, cruising back and forth between Navy Pier in Chicago and the Milwaukee area. The Navy planes would take off from NAS Glenview, which was about 15 miles south of Lake Forest, and I would watch the birds land on the carriers, which were about 2 miles off shore. I recall watching a Wildcat miss the wires and go off the deck into the lake, and another time an SNJ went up on it's nose on landing, and after getting the pilot out, the plane was pushed overboard. Those are just the two I personally saw in 1944, so I'm sure there were hundreds of others.
