My first ride in a P-51 was without earplugs... Take my word for it, it is very LOUD on takeoff, especially inside the airplane.

I know you meant this tongue in cheek, but I credit my less than spectacular hearing now to to a lack of earplug usage around warbirds in the early 1980's. Hmmm... There must be a lawsuit in there somewhere!

Nowadays I don't even fly in an airliner without a set of earplugs. Pretty noisy in the back of a DC-9 Series 80 too!

Had I to do it all over again, I would have paid much more attention to hearing protection. Earplugs were cheap back then as they are now, but I never got around to buying any. I'm sorry now.

Just because your ears don't hurt doesn't mean your hearing is not being permanently damaged.
