The B-17 outside the swedish coast is 42-38008, a B-17G named '888' from 306BG,367BS. WRG has missed an 8 in the serial.
Ditched in the archipelago outside P?skallavik with one engine out after mission to Berlin.
Pilot 2/Lt Matichk and crew safe.
The other one mentioned was 42-32087, B-17G from 452BG,728BS which made a perfect wheels down landing at Resmo on the island of ?land 1944-08-06 with one engine out. Pilot 2/Lt L.W.Graber and crew safe.
Repaired and flown out for storage at F1 Wing 1944-08-06.
Flown back to England 1945-05-28 after the ending of the war.
I have no idea of the salvage rights in Sweden, never been into that buisness...
But I would suppose that the B-17 would be considered to be property of the american gouvernment. That was the case with a Ju88 and a Bf110 that was salvaged in the 80's.
(Property of the german gouvernment)
