I would guess I would have an oppotunity to travel to the moon before I would have an oppotunity to witness a recovery like this as there are too many impracticalities.

The water on the inside would have to be frozen at the same rate as the water on the outside. I don't know how this would be accurately controlled, but if it isn't, like you suggested... CRUNCH or BOOM! Also if there were any cavities still sealed (fuel tanks, etc.) or air pockets these areas would likely be crushed as well since there is no water to freeze inside the cavity thus no balancing pressure for the pressure from the outside water freezing and expanding... CRUNCH!

Like was suggested earlier, a cradle like the one created for the Trenton Halifax is likely a better option.
