Hi Simon. According to Gunston's encyclopedia of Russian aircraft the MIG 3 was produced with AM-35s fitted but some repaired A/C were fitted with the later AM-38 (over 80). Also the AM series of engines were not produced by Klimov (Mr Coggan!) who'se engine range was numbered with either a 'M' or 'VK' prefix, Mikulin produced the AM series of which the AM-30 was the predecessor to the -35. Was a real 'bitsa' engine with blocks modified from a BMW V1, Hispano Hs12Y rear crankcase, Rolls Royce Buzzard reduction gear and the later carbs being taken from an Allison design. I also heard that this particular Mig-3 is for a Swiss group/owner, will be a mean little machine with a -38 in it I bet!
