I looked at this center section about a year ago. It looks complete. Couldn't find a data plate on it, but did find VS Assy plates. No one at the museum new much about it.

: I noticed the photo that you added to the main page of the
: Corsair Registry.
:
: "Jim Harley sent in this image a while ago. It's a FG-1 di
: splayed (currently?) at the Goodyear Corp, Akron, OH.
: Does anyone know the serial number of the aircraft that wa
: s used for this or is it purely a mock-up?"
:
: This Corsair is currently displayed as you see it in the p
: hoto at the "Goodyear World of Rubber Museum" in Akron. T
: he Bureau Number for the plane is 76671.
:
: The cockpit section is mounted on top of a wooden riser, a
: nd no one at the museum really knows if any of the center
: wing section is under there or not. It may just be the co
: ckpit section detached from the main wing.
:
: Also, no one currently at the museum knows where the "plan
: e" came from. I know that Bob Hood and Earl Ware recovere
: d three or four FG-1D center sections from the old NAS Mem
: phis grounds in Millington, Tennessee back during the late
: -60s / early-70s. The two recovered by Hood have been acc
: ounted for, but only one of Earl Ware's. If Ware indeed r
: ecovered more than one of them, this might be where it end
: ed up. I used to talk to Earl but his phone number has go
: ne bad over the last few years.
:
: Had this component come from a complete plane, there more
: than likely would have been more visible documentation of
: the fact. If I make it through Akron I plan on pulling so
: meone aside for a little journey through their museum reco
: rds ;)
