Dave,
don't forget the Rudy Frasca's Frasca Air Museum at Urbana, Illinois (Spitfire XVIII flyer, XVIII project, Flug Werk FW190 project, P-40, Wildcat and other lesser warbirds).

The get there take to 45 north off I-74. A short way off the freeway on the left hand side Frasca Field, a grass field with a group of hangers on the south side. The museum is based in middle of the cluster of three, to the left of the flight office (facing north). Ask in the flight office first as Rudy's engineer Dale is usually working in there alone - best not to give him a shock as he's working.

Octave Chanute is straight up north on the 45, so the two visits would work well together. But be aware that as the Frasca Air Museum is basically an 8-4 Mon-Fri workshop and hangarage facility you might not get to see anything on a weekend (unless they're out and about flying).

P.S. Same applies to Midwest Aero at Danville (8-4, Mon-Fri), third hangar to the left of the flight office if my memory serves. If you able to visit be sure to ask Mr Vadeboncouer (the Principal and a gentleman to boot) about Butch Schroeder's aircraft in the other hanger complex.
