Not really a tradegdy...

For me a tradgedy is major loss of life in war, accidents or weather disasters etc.
Retiring an aircraft after 30+ years of service is not a tradgedy, I'd rather say it's sad to see an end to an era. I don't know for how long time in service the Concord was designed for, but I could imagine that it would sooner or later reach the limit when it is not finanically viable to keep it airworthy. It is not a simple "Vampire" that they're flying which can be kept airworthy for us hanging around on WIX.
The technology in the Concorde or the SR 71 is quite old today, it's better to retire it and construct new aircraft that will sparkle the imagination the young boys and girls of today and make them dream about aviation just like I did when I was a kid - when Concorde and SR 71 was "hot". I don't think that these aircraft are arousing any major fascination among the kids of today - the pilots, flightcrew, designers etc of tomorrow - they deserve something better!!
Ok, after writing this post, I'm now reaching for the ejection seat handle - being prepared for heavy FLAK... :-)
