import/export from France

I am involved in trying to transport some items for a French Museum purchased at Shoreham. Have hit a problem with French Customs. Apparently, new regs prohibit import or export of military equipment of whatever age or condition unless an authority has been granted by the French Army. If that authority not granted then goods and transport will be seized. Problem is we cannot get answers. The French Customs are now on strike Mon/Weds/Fri and the French Army (yes,honestly - maybe we should invade??!) are also on strike or so I'm told. Add to that two bank holidays in France next week and trying to unravel the problem becomes a nightmare. Apparently, no problem between France and other EU countries - just with England. If true, why the hell do we bother with Europe - but best not get into that here!! All I am trying to find are some answers. Can anyone help? Anyone had any experience of this? Andy.
