You're not the only one, I quite agree although I don't know the full story either. The ?3000 valuation for a small square of brass is also obscene, why should the ID plate of an aeroplane be considered so valuable? Have similar items been sold for this price to set a protocol, if so, who buys them, and why?

I am not against removing parts from crash sites. In my opinion, it is better to allow these parts to be used in restoration projects, or museum displays, than letting them just rot away, but it must be done legally and with sensitivity.
