I voted for the first logo, but the one you have presented here is even better so I would like to change my vote! As you suggested maybe a little colour would be nice. The text could be coloured, as could the appropriate colours for the background be added. I would suggest you keep the Spit is the black silouette, as it looks rather dramatic.
The logo would look very nice in large scale on the front of a T-shirt, or perhaps on the pocket of a golf shirt. Perhaps the text "Keep them flying!" could be added to the back of the T-shirt in a hand writing style font.
