NATIONAL RADIAL ENGINE EXHIBITION ? EVENT SCHEDULED - YOU ARE INVITED!! The event will gather the widest possible array of radial-engine-powered aircraft at the Akron, Colorado venue for a one-day exhibition on Septemer 6, 2003. The focus of radial engine power will showcase the aircraft and their corresponding radial engines that were the mainstay of both civil and military aviation from the 1920s, peaked in the 1940s and exited gracefully with the advent of the jet age in the 1950s. The variety of aircraft that would be eligible to be displayed is a long one laced with some of the most important airplanes in history such as the race winning taper-wing Wacos of the late 1920s and the Ford Tri-Motor of the early 1930s that the gave way to the airline icon Douglas DC-3. World War II examples are well known and include the Boeing B-17, North American AT-6, Vaught F4U Corsair, and the Grumman carrier based fighters to mention only a few. The 1950s showcased the great airliners such as the DC-6/7 and Lockheed Constellation. Business aviation virtualy began with the Beechcraft D-18 also popular during the 1950s. The display will encourage close up inspection by guests that will both fly and drive in to the venue. Exhibitors will have an opportunity to use this rendezvous as a place to share information that will help keep their machines running for years to come and vendors a place to reach a targeted market. A reasonable analogy for this event is an automobile show featuring hot rods or Harley Davidson motorcycles. As in these cases this event will feature American icons that have a unique character and mystique about them and have widespread appeal in and out of the aviation community. This show is not duplicated that we know of. Contact Randy Hayes, Airport Manager - COLORADO PLAINS REGIONAL AIRPORT located Akron CO USA. Telephone: 1-970-345-2397. -- Posted 8 May 2003
