Hi Rob:

I can only speak for myself here, but I am HEAVILY involved in the National Capitol Squadron of CAF, as well as being a supporting member of the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation. I can say, that with two exceptions, EVERYONE in the CAF that I have met has been very welcoming to me. (And those two "gentlemen" will forever remember me, I trust!) I'm 31, have been a CAF member since 1998, and have been an active and involved member since then. I did a stint as Squadron Mx officer, and am now Asst Mx Officer. I'm a double sponsor on our BT-13A (N56360,41-22026) and also have financially supported our L-5 (N1156V).

My better half is the Squadron PIO. For an example of her work, see www.nationalcapitolsquadron.com . Her two sons, 12 and 13, are also involved with the Squadron. In one sense, we are "growing our own next generation". (I hope!)

Having said all of that, I completely agree with you that more of us in the 20's and 30's need to become involved. However, many of them are engaged in earning a living, or raising a family, and simply cannot spare the time or the funds to be as supportive as they would like.

Anyone with some concrete ideas on how to attract the younger set, please post em so we can all learn! :)

Best Regards,

Jason Pence
