Tony- Re- Those Sunken Corsairs

Hi Tony,

I have been sitting here looking at the two pictures of the sunken Corsairs that you posted and I agree with Mick, they are two different birds.

The thing that really interests me is they look like they have been stripped and dumped rather than force landed in the water, there is no sign of any other items on the sand around them.

If they were stripped and dumped it puts a different light on the problem of recovering them.

I am tempted to say that I saw a picture very similar to one of these of a Corsair wreak of India, that too was stripped and dumped in shallow water, from a message I read a while ago, it seems that many aircraft were dumped off India after the war, can anyone back that up?

Well if the birds are in six meters of water then they are fairly easy to recover, espcially if they are not USN birds, if it can be proved that they were stripped and dumped then all that lend lease waffle goes away as well, sure they may not be restorable to airworthy conditon but they are lovely projects for a static rebuild.

Anyone want to go diving? I can sink :-)
