I've seen a photo of a dams raid survivor which remained on a fire dump for many years after the war....only to be scrapped in the late 50's I think. I reckon the old bird lost the fight when the previous base commander moved on.

The photo was in a museum but I can't remember where I'm afraid. I just remember feeling sick when I read the caption...so many opportunities wasted.

As for Lanc modifications for the upkeep mine...there were quite a few major mods made including changes to the wing spar I think. I have the engineering drawings for this version but haven't looked in detail at this area.
