This is a shot of Mr. Arrufat during one of the many trips he made to Ilopango Air Base during 1972/73 to recover FG-1D BuNo.92489 (FAS-209) from the local boneyard. He's pictured here in front of a Salvadoran M3 Stuart tank.
In the background you can see at least one P-51 and FG-1D BuNo.92690 (FAS-207) enjoying some of the limited hangar space at the field (limited to obsolete aircraft that is). This Corsair was ultimately repainted in the spurious colors of FAS-220 and put to work as a gate guard. It was later recovered in 1992 by Dan Wirth & Yaron Degani and relocated to Florida. It's the same plane now being offered for sale by Dave Etchell in California.
