Went there on Friday, was somewhat disappointed. There were a dozen Texans, 8 Trojans, Two Corsairs, a half dozen Mustangs, two spits, two catalinas and a skyraider to name a few. As I got there at noon one cat taxiied out and left. I hooked up with Chuck Gardner near the other catalina. The first cat that I had seen IRL, much bigger than I imagined.
The airshow portion (including displays before the actual show) was interesting though the warbird section was too short. The shear number of aircraft in the air was somewhat impressive. The pyro for the corsairs and Skyraider was interesting but marred by a half mile of GA aircraft parked between the spectator line and the pyro.
I did enjoy the display of the corsairs and the skyraider. They are quite impressive.
I was also impressed with the single L-29 and L-39 that made speed passes. The L-29 has a distinctive whine as it approches and the L-39 is so quiet on the approach that it is reminiscent of the A-10.
The warbirds section of the display closed with a missing man formation by the two corsairs, a P-51 and the Skyraider. It was truly beautiful and I was impressed by the dead quiet of the audience while taps was being played. It was very touching.
I have some video of this and will be editting it up when I get home. I will see about posting a web version at some point. I will be posting pictures of the event as soon as I return home and can get the film developed.
