Adrian

I had a look and can't help I am afraid

The only Fairey Battle Construction Numbers I could find are in form F.nnnn (F.4139, F.4848) not FM nnnnn

Bolingbroke: are usually 11-880-nnn and not 83070/CP30-1035

Hurricanes are ususally 41H-nnnnn or 41H-nnnnnn so it could be 41H-48041 but
to find out Serial is a problem, no one knows Hawker C/ns for sure yet....

Dear All,

I would like to be able to research the service histories (Form AM78) of the aircraft listed below. In each case I do not have the Serial Number, but only the manufacturers frame number. Is it possible to obtain the RAF serial number from these frame numbers, and so trace the relevant Form AM78 for each? I've tried the museum at Hendon, but they say that they can't relate frame numbers directly to serial numbers. Can anyone out there help with any information on these aircraft, or point me in another direction?

Hawker Hurricane Mk I (IIB?), Frame Number 48041. Possibly modified from Mk I to Mk IIB as builders plate has a "IB" electropencilled in after the original Mk I.

Fairey Battle Mk III, Frame Number FM 28902, (delivered 2/12/39?). Probably scrapped in Canada.

Fairey Battle Mk III, (?) Frame Number FM 56916. Probably scrapped in Canada.

Bristol (Cockshutt Aviation?) Bolingbroke Mk IV, Frame Number 83070 / CP30-1035. Probably scrapped in Canada.

Airspeed (Harris Lebus?, Austin Motor Co?) Horsa Mk I, Frame Number CRW 2193. Probably S/O charge 6/6/44, Normandy. Possibly on loan to USAAF 9th Troop Carrier Command.

Many thanks,

Adrian Hardgrave
