Take a look at the link below and see if might be of use to you. I've been using the electrolytic rust removal process on some car parts and the results are amazing. Alot of tool restorers use it, also. I found out about it on a tractor restoration forum. It gently removes the corrosion without taking away good metal, as does blasting. It's also a cheap, environmentally friendly way to remove paint. It's slow, but requires little effort.
This process is how many museum ships are protected from corrosion in sea water (for example USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, TX).
I have not tried this method on aluminum. Also, while it removes existing corrosion, it leaves the metal exposed to future corrosion, once the process is stopped. Something would have to be applied to prevent future corrosion.
