This looks to be the ex-RCAF P-40N (N1226N) recovered from Texas and rebuilt by Mike Dillon at Phoenix-Sky Harbor around 1963. The acquisition and rebuild was featured in an excellent four part article series that Air Progress magazine ran a few years later. Mike Dillon wrote the articles himself and gave a good account of what it was like back then to work on such airplanes. His had to be one of the first of the so-called warbirds, except Mike purposely painted the airplane a bright red so it would be recognized as a "restored" airplane rather than a military P-40. Times have changed.

Dillon later sold the airplane to the CAF and subsequently had a falling out with the organization.

N1226N appeared to be based at Addison Airport near Dallas last year and didn't look any too active.
