The one moment that moved me more than any other was the first post restoration flight of the CWH Lancaster. It was truly magical to see the Lanc take to the air after watching such a long restoration and knowing it was one of only two flying in the world.

GO! VRA! GO!

Oh! That that sunny day in anxious September --
glorious day...we'll forever remember;
for if it went well with the gods-that-be,
our very own Lancaster we would see
rise from the runway, Phoenix-like from a grave,
apparition from a Past we sought to save.

A salutary labour of love fathers would bestow
on beloved sons of sacrifice done so long ago.

And indeed that day the Lanc took the air,
a fullfilling sight we almost could'nt bear,
and pent-up tears welled to make our eyes flow
and someone, more demonstrative, yelled "GO! GO! GO!"
