I have never read or heard why the P-38 has counter rotating props that turn in a "backwards" sense (top blade goes outward), in essence giving it 2 critical engines (opposite of say, a Piper Seminole - counter rotate top-inward to remove a critical engine scenario). I assume there is some scientific/technical reason for this, windtunnel tests/compressability/etc????
