that must be very large pits then if they contain Hally's (plural even). Seems like every site connected with aircraft have those rumours, remember Castle Bromwich, or Freeman field.
Problem with thise stories that nobody ever starts to look if these rumours are true or not. There are several cases where these rumours actually were true. Well you never know if you don't try, I always say.
I think it will always be advisable to have a look or at least to dug into any possible archives or talk to people in the know. I will contact Ian Foster to see what can be done.
