Ryan,
I also am really looking forward to your findings and postings on the A-36 identity/parts history.
The R.A.C.E. Special "Wildfire" Unlimited (N3941Y) is seeing recent efforts for revival as a legitimate Custom Unlimited racer at Mojave. A search of the archives of the warbirdaeropress.com message board from this winter should show some photos and update from the owner Bill Statler, Jr.
Older references include:
Air Classics Oct 83 p.6, 58-61;
Warbirds International July/Aug 01 p. 59
For the other poster, it might be said that the severe weight and balance problems dramatically discovered in the first and only flight seem hardly reason for a total condemnation for the project. In 1979-83 when this airplane was in its primary development, the speed potentials on paper were noteworthy.
