Deming, NM sits right on I-10. If you were ferrying any aircraft with limited range, or with suspect instruments, to California, you would I guess, try not to risk crossing over large expanses of desert or mountains without any flat surfaces and airports nearby. From Houston, some of the Corsairs were flown to California. Houston, San Antonio, Junction, El Paso, Las Cruces, Deming, Tucson, Phoenix, Yuma, onto San Diego and LA ???? This route seems logical to me, but again, I don't know the details.
