Andy -

Calabria is a very beautiful region, with clean sea, untamed mountains and an extremely difficult local environment dominated by clans and organized crime. My first bit of advice would be not to ask too many questions. Penalties could be far nastier than spotting in Greece, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, there was plenty of fighting around the straits of Messina in 1943, which resulted in lots of aircraft underwater. No recoveries are known to have ever been undertaken. The Allies beat the s**t out of every airfield and airstrip in summer 1943, but as far as is known everything has long since been cleaned up.
