I agree with Tulio for the most part. Either the Me 262 or the Mig 15 for the shear impact they had when they arrived.

The Mig 21, while a capable aircraft for its time, owes most of its significance to philosophical diffences in thinking about what a fighter was. The US fighters initially were treated as missile platforms and the crews were trained this way. The Mig 21, being more of a dogfighter could take advantage of this. Once guns were installed in the Phantoms and crew training changed the impact of the Mig 21 was lessened. Besides, the Vietnamese were have the same initial success with the Mig 17 and Mig 19. they probably could have been somewhat successful with sidewinder equipped Mustangs at that time period. It was the situation and not really the aircraft that defined those events. At least in my opinion.
