You are correct that the tailplane is built in two halves and joined in the middle. The whole assembly is then fitted in a cutout on top of the rear fusealge and covered with fairings.
Yes, the frames were made from marine plywood, and painted silver and green but looks very impressive. There is nog bombbay because everything is closed. Despite the offer from 57 Rescue to supply them with a set of original Halifax bomb doors.
The props are fibreglass as the undercarriage fairings are, but they used a Merlin prop as a pattern instead of a Hercules one.
During my stay there I met Tony Agar (why are all persons involved with warbirds in the UK named Tony) and spent a few very enjoyable hours with him there.
I left the museum very impressed.
