In the Winter issue of the The Bulletin put out by the Memphis Belle Memorial Assn, there is an update as to the movement and restoration of this great plane. Starting in November of last year, they started dismantling the plane on Mud Island in Memphis where it has been on display since 1987. The structure in which the plane has been on display is basically an open air building made to resemble a large parachute subjecting the airframe subject to high humidities. Once dismantled, the plane will be taken to Millington Municipal Airport where it will undergo restoration before being placed on display in a climate controlled building in Memphis. Its nice to see the old bird will get a suitable place for generations to come. membership in the memphis Belle Memorial Assn can be had for as little as $20.
