Well, if you want to pursue that line of thought and take a step further backwards - without the Chain Home ground-based radar early warning system, the Hurricanes and Spitfires wouldn't have been able to do the job they did. Specifically, they would have had to operate on a standing patrols basis and that just wouldn't have worked out - for very many, very good, reasons.
